April 2026 Trailsletter

Spring (or should we say early summer?) is upon us and TTA is excited for another big year working with all of you amazing volunteers to improve our existing trails and advocate for new ones. This month we'll have a couple opportunities for trail work. Plus -- free NA beer from our friends at Athletic Brewing.

April Trail Work:

Saturday 4/11 at the Wormhole

For April we're heading back to our home turf at the Wormhole for some spring cleaning. Expect the usual combination of lopping, raking, and some tread/drain work. There is a downed tree encroaching on the upper loop that we'll send a team to tackle as well.

Plus, the potential of some new trail scouting! TTA plans to continue adding onto the lower loop trails this year. We're looking at a possible mountain bike only descending trail and alternate multiuse trails to reach the mesa top.

Saturday April 11, 2026
9 AM - 12PM

Meet at the Wormhole Trailhead

Treats, tools, and supplies provided. Join us afterwards for cold beverages and good company at the trailhead!

We're also introducing our first ever Poop Troop -- the lower loops are covered in dog doodoo and we'll send some folks around with scoopers to clean things up.

Remember, pick up your dog's poop! There's a handy dog waste station right at the trailhead.

April Trail Work

Blue Heron Trail Pop Up

Continuing with our pop-up "strike team" approach, we'll have another opportunity for trail work in April at the Blue Heron Trail in the Boulevard Addition.

This session will focus on invasive weeds growing in disturbed areas along the trail's edge. We'll look to clear out targeted sections and potentially re-seed with native grasses.

DATE AND TIME TBD
Email us to join the trail team!

As always, TTA will provide tools, snacks, and cold beverages for a post-work hangout. Please bring your own pair of work gloves and a water bottle.

Athletic Brewing Sponsorship
& New TTA Pint Glasses

We're excited to announce that Athletic Brewing is sending us some cases of their tasty non-alcoholic beer. They're a refreshing post-trail work beverage for those of us who may not want to catch a buzz at noon or prefer alcohol alternatives these days. We'll have these at all of our upcoming spring trail events!

For those who do prefer to catch a buzz, we'll still have some regular brews on hand as usual, too.

And what better vessel to enjoy these newly acquired beverages than your very own TTA pint glass?

With etching from our very own dedicated volunteer Roger, we have these available for $10. Support trail stewardship in Trinidad every time you pour a cold one.

Want one of your own? Drop us a line.

March Volunteer Highlights

Thanks to everyone who joined our friends at Purgatoire Watershed Partnership for our combined river cleanup effort last month. A whopping 50+ volunteers turned out, with highlights including river updates from local agricultural producer Frank Milinazzo and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Regional Manager Sammie Molinaro, a middle school class of kids helping out, and over 70 bags of trash hauled out. Thanks to Julie at PWP for organizing a great day.

We also formed our first "Poison Canyon Strike Team" for a pop up workday at Fishers Peak State Park focusing on the mountain bike-only directional trail.

This trail has seen little maintenance over the past couple years, particularly through the middle section, and its many features including berms and jumps required some love! We had 8 folks who hauled over 20 gallons of water to spray things down as we reshaped berms, and raked sandy corners.

Sponsor of the Month

Trinidad Lanes

Our business sponsor of the month is Trinidad Lanes, our longstanding local bowling alley offering affordable, family-friendly fun! With 12 lanes, a full snack bar, and options for league and tournament play, it's truly a gem and always a great night out.

Thank you for supporting local trails and outdoor recreation!
