Thanks to everyone who walked with us or sprayed us down during the annual Independence Day Wet Parade in downtown Trinidad.
Hopefully you spotted our trailer "Celebrating our public lands!" In the eternal words of Woody Guthrie, "This land was made for you and me." Now that's something we can be patriotic about.
Read on for the time/location of our upcoming 2nd Saturday Trail Work Day, some updates from last month, and how to apply for our Trinidad State College scholarship for this fall's mechanized trail building class.
July Trail Work:
Saturday 7/12 at the Wormhole
We originally planned to be at the Army Corps of Engineers trails below the dam this month, but instead are pivoting to give some attention to the Wormhole.
Next month we'll be back at Wormhole to celebrate 10 Years of our local trails with a big party! (So there may not be much trailwork performed in August.)
With all the spring and summer rains, there is significant brushwork to be done. We will also take the opportunity to follow up on the recent chainsaw work performed by the Mile High Youth Corps (more on that below.)
Meet at the trailhead at 9AM and as always please bring a pair of workgloves and a water vessel. TTA will provide tools and beverages!

Fishers Peak Volunteer Open House
Join Colorado Parks & Wildlife staff at next week's open house to learn about opportunities to get involved at Fishers Peak State Park in 2025 and beyond!
Thursday July 17th
6:00 - 8:00 PM
Stop by any time during the event as there will be no formal presentations. Light refreshments will be provided.
If you are unable to attend the event, please email dnr_fishers.peak@state.co.us for more information on volunteering with FPSP.

June Trail Work Wrap Up
FPSP maintenance, Youth Corps sawyers, and Wormhole wackin'
Last month we had 15 volunteers come out to Fishers Peak State Park to perform maintenance on Goldenrod and Poison Canyon trails. We also stained the lower bridge leading to Lower Lone Cub!
Later in June we hosted a quick pop-up weedwacking effort at the lower loops of the Wormhole. A handful of folks brought their personal trimmers out and we made short work of the overgrowth, which has been growing rapidly with our summer rains.
Lastly, TTA helped organize a Mile High Youth Corps excursion last week at the Wormhole. They sent a sawyer team down for multiple days cleaning up dead pinon and other trees, both beautifying and helping with fire mitigation efforts.
THANK YOU to all of our amazing volunteers and supporters for this ongoing work.

Apply for Our TSC Scholarship: Mechanized Trail Building
As we announced last month, TTA will be matching funds from a Bar NI grant award to provide scholarships to three individuals for this September's mechanized trail building class at TSC.
If you or someone you know would like to apply, please fill out this brief Google Form!
This scholarship is only open to residents of Las Animas and Huerfano counties.

Save the Date: Wormhole 10th Anniversary Extravaganza!
Our beloved Wormhole trails are turning 10 years old this summer and we want to celebrate! More information to come soon, but plan to join us on our usual 2nd Saturday gathering in August at the Wormhole Trailhead.
We'll have food, music, art, guided hikes/rides, and fun for the whole family!
