May 2026 Trailsletter

We're thrilled the region finally got some moisture -- besides reducing fire risk a tad and providing resources for animals and plants alike, it also makes for great digging conditions! Join us this weekend at Levsa Canyon at TLSP for trail work and read about some other awesome stuff coming up in the trails world.

New Trail Construction Coming Soon at the Wormhole

Friend of Trinidad, consultant at Fishers Peak State Park, founding member of Timberline Trailcraft, Tony Boone will be back in town later this month, working with TTA volunteers who trained under the Trinidad State College trail building program last fall to begin cutting a new segment of trail at the Wormhole!

This new trail will eventually become a new climb to reach the mesa top from the west side. TTA obtained the original Colorado Parks & Wildlife grant to design and flag this trail and we will be helping fund payment for our trail workers as part of this next phase.

As with any other trail system, we ask visitors to avoid new trail segments until they are officially open, especially during construction, for safety and the long-term sustainability of the trail.

TTA At the Partners in the Outdoors Conference

TTA's Director Jenn Green attended the annual Colorado Parks & Wildlife Partners in the Outdoors Conference last month in Colorado Springs. She says:

It was a great opportunity for networking with agencies and individuals from across the state around Colorado's Outdoor Strategy. In addition, TTA was honored to represent the Spanish Peaks Outdoor Coalition at the 2026 Colorado Regional Partnerships Initiative Summit.

Session topics included tribal engagement, sustainability of working lands, and outdoor opportunities for local youth.

It got me thinking about how TTA help lead the charge in enhancing outdoor access, balancing outdoor recreation and conservation, and sustaining active and healthy communities, all while honoring local heritage.

Not an easy riddle to solve, but one we look forward to tackling to the best of our abilities!

April Volunteer Highlights

In April, 26 handy volunteers of all ages pitched in for trail work and poop patrol at Wormhole Loop trails. Thanks to the Tire Shop Wine and Spirits and Athletic Brewing Company for providing post-work beverages!

New hand painted signage by the Trinidad Middle School Hiking Club to remind folks about good trail manners when you're out there enjoying our public lands with your doggies.
