Fall is sneaking up on us, but we still have a few more weeks of warm sunny weather before it gets crisp. We have lots going on in the trail world this month, starting with 2nd Saturday Trail Work at Fishers Peak State Park!

And we're launching our second ever fundraiser through the remainder of the year. Individuals and businesses are invited to contribute to our mission of supporting sustainable outdoor recreation through trail building, maintenance, and stewardship of local outdoor spaces.

September Trail Work:
Saturday 9/13 at Fishers Peak State Park

Recent heavy rains have led to some water damage on the Fishers Peak trail system. We will remediate channeling and bellying on the trail tread, clean out drains, and perform any other light duties as needed (lopping, limbing, moving loose rocks that have washed onto the trail, etc).

We will be working Saturday, September 13th from 9AM to noon.

Meet at the trailhead a few minutes early to complete mandatory Colorado Parks & Wildlife volunteer waiver.

TTA will provide tools, snacks, and some cold beverages. Please bring a water vessel and work gloves.

Volunteers Needed for Rad Dirt Fest!

The 4th Annual Rad Dirt Fest is coming up!

Trinidad Trails Alliance will once again be coordinating volunteers for race events on September 26-27, 2025. It is a great event for our region and the production company Life Time has been a generous sponsor of TTA and school groups in the past.

All volunteers will receive lunch (provided at stations) and a t-shirt which can be picked up from Space to Create on the afternoon of Friday the 26th.

Donate Today for Cool Swag & to Support Trails in Trinidad!

Since 2022, Trinidad Trails Alliance has provided over 1,500 volunteer hours maintaining local trails, creating new opportunities for outdoor recreation, and supporting major events in Trinidad and Las Animas County.

We use our funding for mission critical efforts such as:

  • Purchasing and maintaining trail building and maintenance equipment, including a trailer

  • Funding programs such as the TSC Mechanized Trail Building scholarship

  • Providing limited stipends to staff and admin

  • Acquiring trail signage and wayfinding items

As we grow, our funding needs scale alongside us. In the coming years, major expenses could include:

  • Contracting trail construction at the Wormhole or other city-owned parcels

  • Salaries for TTA Director and/or other staff

  • Additional needs for accounting and administration support

  • Contracting design and planning for new trails, bike park, and/or pump track

  • New youth programming opportunities

10 Years of the Wormhole Celebration
Thanks to All!

Last month we paused our regular second Saturday trail work for a simply magical 10th Anniversary Celebration for our local trails at the Wormhole. Over 50 people came out for a fun morning and afternoon spent outdoors.

We enjoyed great pancakes, crafting with cans and trail junk, music, watermelon seed spitting, hikes and bikes, and of course our beloved maypole.

Extra thanks to:

  • Event sponsor Tony Boone and Timberline Trail Craft (who are currently building new trails on Fishers Peak!)

  • Tim Crisler (one of the original visionaries behind the Wormhole)

  • Local artists Lora Nava and Zoe Anjo

  • Karen Wolf, Jared Chatterley, and the City of Trinidad

  • Knapp's Farm Market

  • Tire Shop Wine & Spirits

  • Mutiny Coffee

Good times, great community! We Trinidad trails!

Speaking of the Wormhole...
Upcoming Heavy Equipment 9/8 - 9/11

Students with Trinidad State College's Mechanized Trail Building program (many of whom received scholarships from TTA/Bar NI Community Fund or La Veta Trails to attend) will be learning how to operate heavy equipment for trail building this upcoming week at the Wormhole.

Course outcomes will include new and improved trail sections, plus a miniature pump track for beginner riders.

Be aware and alert for the possibility of encountering machines and students while out hiking and biking this week!

Spanish Peaks Outdoor Coalition Public Survey

The Spanish Peaks Outdoor Coalition (SPOC) is part of the Colorado Outdoor Regional Partnerships program, supported by CPW and GOCO, which will distribute millions of dollars in grant funding to regional groups supporting conservation and outdoor recreation across the state. TTA is a proud member of the coalition.

SPOC is seeking public input on what is important to YOU when it comes to the great outdoors and public land development and conservation.

Take 5-10 minutes to share your insights on:

  • Trails and outdoor recreation

  • Land conservation and habitat protection

  • Tourism, access, and local values

  • Cultural and community connections to land

Your feedback will directly inform SPOC’s planning and decision-making and further TTA's mission of supporting sustainable outdoor recreation and stewardship of local outdoor spaces.
